I was born in a small village situated on the bank of the river
Humber where I lived until I met and married Mike in 1973. I was
brought up in a large farm cottage linked to my fathers employment.
I had a happy childhood living with my parents and two sisters.
We had a menagerie of animals at home and it was nothing to see
the runt of the litter (little pig) in a box by the side of the
fire or a lamb running in and out of the house. The ferrets were
my favorite.
I went to the local village school until I was 11 yrs old then went
to school at Howden. I left at 16 yrs old to become a hairstylist.
When I married Mike we moved away into 'Army life' (a big culture
shock for a country lass) During this period I brought up two children
and had a variety of jobs.
When Mike left the Army, the kids were nearly getting ready to leave
the nest and I began to look for a new career, (having got fed up
of washing hair) I started to study with the 'Open University' but
took a break to study to become an Occupational Therapist. (I gained
my state registration in 1991, along with my honors degree, then
went back to complete my O.U. Degree). Occupational Therapy (for
those who do not know what it is ....look it up!!) was a good choice
of career which I thoroughly enjoy. I presently work in the area
of Mental Health and meet lots of very nice people, who are often
at a low period in their lives.
I am currently studying ( started 2000 - complete 2003) for an
Msc in Professional Practice at the University of Lincoln
Although I have reached what most would call middle aged, my sense
of humour is still that of my teens and often gets frowned upon.
I've enjoyed the first part of my life and certainly intend to live
the last part to the full.
Mike has been nagging me for ages to start on 'my page' but computers
and me don't always 'get it together'. But, I have made a start
which I will hopefully improve upon in the years to come.
