The Summer House
|
|
| We have started a project at the bottom of our garden in June 2000, the idea was to create an area were we can get away from the house and enjoy peace and quiet, also a place for the family to join us for a barbecue. | |
|
An old pig sty will be demolished as we don't keep pigs any more (illegal to slaughter your own at home now). The complete project will include a brick building with summer house
in a private garden and an patio for a barbecue. If money permits we will
include a sauna and jacuzzi. |

| Below is the start of the building work. The footings have been laid (18in x 18in concrete) and the foundations are being built. This will be covered with a six inch slab of concrete as a raft. | |

Most of the pig sty has been demolished we are now building up a three
brick high wall before the concrete for the floor is pored. The floor area will be about 15ft x 18ft, the brick section will back onto the bushes that can be seen to the rear. |
| The glass summer house section will be built onto the front facing south. The real building has started, all corners have been built to six bricks high. The front of the building is at its finished height, the remainder of this section will be constructed from timber and glass as this is the sun room area. The rear is to be all brick construction with a clay pan tile roof, this is where the sauna and kitchen area will be located. | |

Not a very good picture I have cut it down too much and ruined it, but I hope it is obvious as to where we are with the construction. Still a long way to go before we can take the sun, hope to have all the building work done by the end of July, so we can at least have a couple of good months before the bad weather sets in again. |
| Up to roof level now on the brick section, work has been slow due to all the rain we have had over the winter months. The next stage will be to construct the wooden sun section, so we can get the join between the tile roof and the clear roof right. You can just see the barbecue area on the right It is hoped that the rear area will contain a sauna, whilst the front sun room will contain a Jacuzzi. A fenced landscaped garden will surround the final construction. |

At this point the brick section is just about finished with the roof tiles and pointed. The summer house section is well on the way, (free time is now slowing up the project). I am now in the process of building the opening sashes for the windows, but you can see by the chairs I have started to use the area for the odd beer or two. |
|
Just about there now, the shell is about complete and the building is water tight. Now the hard work begins completing the inside and landscaping the garden. The doors were second hand, (you can get some good deals out of the paper) just had to modify the door jambs as I built the opening for two larger doors. We have had our first bottles of wine, and it was great looking out over the garden whilst slowly slipping down the seat. Looking forward to having a party soon. |
|
| The pond shown here (which is also under construction) may also be included inside the fenced area around the summer house, we have not decided as yet. If not it is very close by and will enhance the approach to the area and will not form too much of a hazard when we have had a drink.. |

Two images to the left show the progress made over the winter months. Electricity and water connections have now been established and are working. The first image shows the fence enclosing the summer house to provide privacy, the centre images shows the sauna built inside the brick section of the summer house |
| We have now installed a hot tub, which sits under the plum and apple trees inside it's own gazebo. |
